Volunteers painted the offices of Show, Inc. during Friday's Day of Caring activities.

Sapulpa’s United Way campaign got off to a sweeping start Friday as nearly 100 volunteers from Sapulpa and surrounding areas showed up to participate in the community’s Day of Caring activities.   more

The day started with a hearty breakfast hosted by Freddie’s Bar-B-Q Steak House for the volunteers.

During the breakfast, Sapulpa United Way campaign chairperson Chuck Mitchell welcomed everyone and announced the community’s fundraising campaign was officially underway.

Volunteers then spread out across Sapulpa to help out agencies that needed a hand.

Show, Inc. received a facelift inside their offices as volunteers applied a fresh coat of paint to the walls.

Volunteers at Sapulpa Stegall Head Start worked on planting flowers in the beds surrounding the building.

Community Care received some much-needed help as volunteers helped install shelving units into the agency’s storage area.

Mitchell reported that anywhere from six to eight United Way agencies were aided in the Day of Caring activities.

“Just like everything else we do in Sapulpa, it’s not a surprise that we got off to a good start with the campaign,” Mitchell said. “The community is always willing to help wherever it is needed.”

The fundraising campaign will last just over two months. Victory Day, scheduled for Nov. 9, will cap off the campaign.

The Sapulpa United Way campaign team hopes to surpass their fundraising efforts of just over $200,000 last year.

“I know we can do it,” Mitchell said. “We have great community leadership here in Sapulpa.”

Sapulpa has had a head-start on fundraising due to the efforts of United Way Trailblazer company Oklahoma National Bank, who began their fundraising efforts Aug. 4.

The Sapulpa United Way is an important part of the community, raising thousands of dollars to help fund various area non-profit agencies.

In 2005, Sapulpa United Way agencies aided 11,404 residents.
