Historically, adults with
developmental disabilities have been excluded from the workforce. Adults
had few if any opportunities to earn money or develop employment related
skills needed for job success. In 1976, in response to the need, Show was organized as a non-profit 501(c)(3) community based
agency serving the employment needs of individuals with disabilities in
the Sapulpa, Tulsa and Sand Springs areas. Despite progress in this area, and Show's success at developing over 400 community based jobs for persons with disabilities, surveys show that only 37% of persons with disabilities are employed. Show is a community based program governed by a fifteen member volunteer Board of Directors. The business of Show is administered by an Executive Director who oversees all aspects of Show's vocational programs. Show contracts with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Developmental Disabilities Services Division to provide vocational training. Show also receives funding from the United Way and from community contributions. In 1999 an Assisted Living Program was added to provide intermittent support to persons in their own homes.
Show has been a United Way agency since 1981 and has achieved the "Award of Excellence" several times.
