Historically,
adults with developmental disabilities have been excluded from the work
force. Adults had few if any opportunities to earn money or develop
employment related skills needed for job success. In 1975 S.H.O.W. - Sapulpa Handicapped Occupational Workshop - was started as a sheltered workshop to help serve the needs of adults with developmental disabiliites. In a response to more employment and community related skills being needed, in 1989 Show, Inc. was organized as a non-profit 501(c)(3) community based agency and opened their doors wide. In 1991 in an effort to bring more of the community to Show and more of Show to the community Show Recycling Center was opened. Offering a place for Sapulpa area residents to bring their recycling SRC also offers curbside pickup services for residential as well as commercial customers. Over the years Show, Inc. has grown in many ways in an effort to offer our employees more skills and opportunities to interact with their local community such as providing the landscaping for Sapulpa Main Street, shredding at City Hall as well as the City of Sand Springs and janitorial services at a local church as well as the Respite Care building. In 1981 Show, Inc. became a United Way Agency and has achieved the "Award of Excellence" several times. Show, Inc. also actively helps support United Way by running our own United Way Campaign each year with activities that all of our employees look forward to each year. In 1999 Show added an Assisted Living Program to provide intermittent support to persons in their own homes. Show is goverened by a fifteen member volunteer Board of Directors. The business of Show is administered by an Executive Director who oversees all aspects of Show's vocational programs. Show contracts with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Developmental Disabilities Services Division to provide vocational training. Show also receives funding from the United Way and from community contributors through donations and community participation in our annual United Way Campaign activities. |
