Local recycling center
awarded as 'cleanest' in metro area
By STEVEN JAMES
Herald Assistant Editor
If cleanliness really is next
to godliness, the halos of the employees of Show, Inc. are glowing a
little more brightly these days.
Show’s recycling depot at 425 W. Wells was recently named the cleanest of
a dozen collection sites by the Metropolitan Environmental Trust, said
Collette Beil, director of marketing and job development.
“Our staff and employees work very hard to keep the site clean and safe,”
Beil said.
The site, at which a variety of
recyclable materials may be dropped off, including newspapers, magazines,
office paper, aluminum cans, glass and No. 1 and No. 2 plastic containers,
is quickly becoming one of the M.e.t.’s busiest, Beil said.
As a result, the center is expanding its hours this year, staying open
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
“During the week we’re bringing in so much more, we need that extra time
to catch up,” said Beil.
Recycling is becoming more profitable with today’s higher oil prices,
since petroleum is a major component of plastic.
“We used to get (plastic containers) and they would be $120 a ton,” Beil
said. “Now, the price we’re getting has jumped up almost five times, to
about $420 a ton.”
Show is trying to expand its curbside recycling program, which costs $3 a
month for pickup every other week, Beil said.
“It’s very easy to do,” she said. “It’s so simple to sign up. You can do
it online, or with a phone call.”
Show’s curbside recycling service is not limited to residents in the
Sapulpa city limits, she added.
“If it’s at all feasible, you can be on the route,” she said. “If we have
five or six houses in an area to pick up from, it’s worth it to us.”
Show is also shredding documents for free until the end of the month.
“We’re accepting anyone to bring us their shredding,” said Beil.
“Payroll records, tax files, whatever they have that needs to be kept
confidential. We even give certificates of destruction if a company or
individual needs them.”
Show’s weekday hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Show, Inc., offers to
shred documents at no charge
From Staff Reports
One local United Way agency
is offering a much-needed public service to the community.
Show, Inc. is currently accepting sensitive documents and will shred them
for no charge, according to Show, Inc. executive director Don Lawrence.
“If anyone has document shredding to be done, drop it by Show and we’ll do
it for free,” Lawrence said.
He said he hopes the free service can help out residents who may be
needing to destroy some sensitive or confidential documents.
“We realize that with the end of the year approaching, many people are
cleaning out the closets, gathering old receipts for tax time, and
eventually they will need to dispose of those documents properly,”
Lawrence said.
“This is a terrific service that we can provide to the community, and
we’re glad to be doing so,” he added.
The agency will be offering the service through the end of January.
Anyone interested may drop their documents off at the Show, Inc. office
located at 425 W. Wells Blvd. in Sapulpa.
For more information on the document shredding service, please contact
Show, Inc. offices at 224-7214.

Show updates recycling
services
By Jami Mattox
Herald Managing Editor
Keeping up with the latest
and greatest technology is never an easy task, but that is exactly what
Show, Inc. has done.
The Sapulpa-based United Way agency recently made several updates to its
services, including offering residents a way to sign up for curbside
recycling online. Now, customers can simply fill out a form, submit it and
receive quarterly bills for the service.
“We are looking for more customers to expand the recycling business here
at Show,” said executive director Don Lawrence.
“We’re simply making it that much easier for Sapulpa residents to
recycle.”
Lawrence said that Show, Inc. has been offering curbside recycling in
Sapulpa for five years now. He said the program came about through a joint
agreement with the City of Sapulpa that residents would benefit from such
a program.
“Curbside recycling was such a
natural progression for our business,” he said.
“And it’s been a very successful venture for us.”
Show, Inc. currently serves 84 curbside customers. Workers pick up every
recyclable materials from bins every other Monday. Lawrence hopes that the
online sign up will help expand that customer base dramatically.
“Show, Inc. has such a successful system,” he said.
“It has become a prototype for larger cities around us.”
Lawrence said that the recycling center currently employs nearly 60
employees, whose duties range from shredding confidential documents to
sorting different colors of glass.
Each job is important to the center, Lawrence said, and each job provides
gainful employment for one more Sapulpa resident who otherwise may not be
able to obtain employment due to developmental disabilities.
“Recycling is good for the environment and good for us here at Show,”
Lawrence said.
“It is a win for the city in the reduction in landfill and an increase in
employment.
“Show has done an excellent job in establishing themselves in the
recycling community,” he added.
Curbside recycling runs $3 a month, plus a $5 deposit for the recycling
bin, which is refundable upon the return of the bin.
Show, Inc. is also embarking on a new project for their employees.
They have recently acquired equipment that allows them to offer video
transfer services. Show, Inc. employees can transfer VHS tapes to DVD, DVD
to VHS tapes or copy DVDs.
Lawrence said the new technology is perfect for those who want to preserve
their home videos.
“Of course, we can only transfer non-copyrighted material, but I think
it’s a service that could benefit the entire community.”

services, visit their Web site at www.showinc.org, or reach them at
